CAREER PLANNING- A SYSTEMATIC APPROACH

ATUL MANKAR

CAREER COUNSELLOR

H
uman beings are social animals and like all other social animals they too live in a society. a society that makes his life and everything they depend on. A society binds all the living beings together and their interaction keeps human life stable. As we are aware of the fact that ants termites and even bees like small animals need a society. And, the purpose of every individual is determined by the nature. As they enter into the world they start working for their colony and their queen. Queen lay eggs, workers take care of the nest, larvae and forage, the male nest to mate and die. It's a fact everyone who came on this earth has to work. Yes.
The world is now full of options. We have options plus information. everything and everywhere opportunities are welcoming you. now we are not in a world where work's were distributed according to family and birth. we are exploring the earth and the hidden treasures of the universe. We are ready to carve everything that would make mankind and the human species live happily with nature. everyone has to participate and work for the benefit of their nation and nature.
Now you would be thinking what is a career?  according to oxford dictionary "the series of jobs that a person has in particular area of work, usually involving more responsibility as time passes" as a child you must be in a dilemma. Children are under the influence of their peers, society and family about choosing their lifetime career. A career is not only a job but,  it's a series of job with lifetime responsibilities. So it's  very crucial to choose your career wisely and cautiously.
These are few steps that will help you to choose your career wisely, as it is going to be your life time engagement. Don't be an example of  'caught in the  wrong job'.

PERFORM A SELF ASSESSMENT -
·         Find out your Interests, Aptitudes (an innate inborn ability or capacity to learn to do a certain kind of work) and Personality type.
You could take the help of a professional career counselor. these test can be carried out online as well as offline. But it is better to opt for a face to face online career counseling sessions with a career counselor.
·         Your correct aptitude and personality type will determine the course of your career. As you grow in your age your career should also grow and this is possible only when you go scientifically while choosing your career.

IDENTIFY YOUR MUST HAVES
Make a list of things you want to get in life. amount or earning, travelling, adventure, social service, a dominating character, business, self dependency, arts and culture,  paintings, music dance, social atmosphere  etc. This will help you to understand your career and will help you in flourishing.
MAKE A LIST OF CAREERS TO EXPLORE
In an survey conducted by MINDLER on 10,000 children of age group 14yrs to 21yrs it was found that most of the children were aware of only these  7 career options Engineering, Accounts and finance, Comuter application, Meicine, Management, Designing and Law.
There are more than 250 career options available in India to choose for. Industries are not getting employees because youngsters are unaware of the options available in the country. So go through the jobs in the field of your interest and the jobs that sits your personality.

REASERCH JOBS AND EXPLORE EMPLOYERS
After finding a perfect career option research for the jobs available in market related t the career that you are interested in . Find out the way to get entry into it. The details of the skills they require , their advertisments and how to they conducte examinations approximate dates of condct of examinations , salary and erks they provide, the workign atmosphere they provide.
Interview employee if the job that you wold like to go for.
Find out all the positives and negatives of the job working hours, stress an pressure of completing tasks, etc
 GET TRAINED AND SKILLED
Now you hace a blue print of your career lets get trained accordingly. for example if you want to opt for making music as your career. start musc as an additional subject in your class 11 and 12th or you wold like to go for photography as a career go for an additional subjec ton photograph other than your main subjects.
Start developing skills from school life. collect as much as certificates and trophies you could. Even your participation certificates will help an interviewer  understand your inclination for a job.
A candidate went for an interview, for a job of  scientist he was asked, what did he reserched in his school life when he was from class 1st  to 5 th? The answer was "I collected different types of stones and studied their colours shapes and textures". The answer was a clear picture of the candidate.

However, the youth do not have the kind of skills the new industries want there is a wide skill gap. so I suggest you to go through these 5 steps and plan your career accordingly. Keep your plans flexible to +1 or -1 . Your GOOD planing  will lead you to  GOOD results.

The counseling process, at least to me, is about finding yourself.
                                                                      - says Dr. David Reile Executive Coach, Career Development Alliance, USA
